Whether you are a homeowner or just a renter, you could be financially strained each month to pay all of the utility bills. These can be the electric bill, water bill, and gas bill. These days they probably also include other things you deem necessary like cable or satellite reception for your television, home phone and cell phone bills, and well as Internet service. All of these combined can really add up, but there are ways to save money on each and every one of them if you try. We can start with the electric bill. Just by spending a few extra dollars at one time and replacing all of your outdated light bulbs with newer, more energy efficient and longer lasting ones, you will save money over all. Not only is is cheaper for you eventually, it is better for the planet. Even when you use these bulbs, you still need to do other things like unplugging electrical things that still use energy even though you are not using them at the moment. These items can be your computer printer, your cell phone charger, your stereo system. Just look around your home and if the item is not being used, but is still displaying a light of some kind, it is using energy. Keep lights off when not in use and keep your thermostat set a few degrees warmer in summer and cooler in winter. If you use natural gas to heat your home, hot water, and to cook with, you pretty much only use it when you are using it. There are new tank free hot water systems that are cheaper in the long run, but are expensive to purchase. They do produce a continuous supply of hot water that will not run out because it is only heated when it is used. You can buy these units to run off of electricity or gas. Keeping hot water heated is a big expense when you do it using electricity with the old tank type heaters. Phone, satellite, cable, and Internet bills will be determined by what kind of services you have. These days when you take a cell phone with you everywhere you go, you might find that you do not even need a home phone service anymore. You might think that you need your home phone service because it also provides your Internet service, but actually some services do not require that you have phone service too just to have Internet. Cable or satellite bills usually depend on how many channels you get. If you do not use many of them or rarely watch television, choose a less expensive package. Paying an extra 20 dollars a month or more just to catch a few shows here and there probably costing you money you would be better off saving.
